Facial Rejuvenation with Mesotherapy & Platlet-rich Plasma

Submitted by Dr Gail Humble on June 12, 2011

Facial rejuvenation combining mesotherapy and Platelet Rich plasma is a natural treatment that is being used to restore dermal regeneration. Platelet Rich Plasma is the plasma taken from one’s own blood. These platelets release growth factors and have proven highly effective in skin rejuvenation. This is a unique form of cell therapy that has a high safety profile. A mesotherapy (very small) needle is used to make a series of small serial punctures in the skin about a half an inch apart. With each puncture a small amount of the activated PRP is injected into the target tissue. An alternative method is to use a dermal roller to make small micro punctures in the epidermis. After the dermal roller is passed, the PRP is laid on top of the skin and allowed to dry. Both of these techniques uses the patient’s own growth factors suspended in enriched PRP, and provides stimulation of fibroblasts (cells that maintain the structural integrity of connective tissues) in the skin which then facilitates the skin’s rejuvenation and healing process thru activation of cytokines (small cell-signaling protein molecules). Only a small amount of blood is required and the entire process can take as little as 20 minutes. There is no down time for the patient and minimal discomfort. Results may be seen as soon as the next day but continue to improve over time.  Once the platelets are viable, growth factors are released for the first seven days. Results include significant improvement in texture and tone with an increase in luminosity. Results have been qualified by advanced digital skin analysis. PRP injections allow facial rejuvenation in a very cost effective and safe way. Treatments can be repeated every six months and benefits are cumulative over time.  PRP can be used as deep dermal filler, which would be used for volume. PRP can also be combined with superficial injections for skin rejuvenation during the same treatment session.
